"All Gave Some, Some Gave All"
Tremonton is the home of the beautiful Veteran's Memorial which is located in Midland Square . The Memorial was constructed to recognize the sacrifice and contribution of all veterans from the Bear River Valley Area, which consists of: Beaver Dam, Bear River City , Bothwell, Deweyville, Elwood, Fielding, Garland , Grouse Creek, Honeyville, Howell, Park Valley , Penrose, Portage , Promontory, Snowville, Thatcher, Tremonton and Washaki. The Memorial includes a larger than life bronze statue depicting a soldier (sculpted by Val Lewis of Bothwell). To the left of the soldier are four bronze plaques, (sculpted by Jacki Allred Hunlow), which display pictures of the four Borgstrom brothers who lost their lives during a five month period in 1944 during World War II. Also featured on the Memorial are plaques honoring those who gave their lives for our country. Complementing the Memorial are free standing engraved pages which list the names of veterans from this area. A.C. Christensen headed up this project not only to honor the veterans, but to let "people know just what our freedom means to us. Freedom is not free. It was bought with a price." "For us they willingly and nobly gave life, itself. They achieved what very few of us dare to hope will be our future-a Share in the shaping of destiny. To them belongs a page of history, a page of courage and strength that will forever (be) read and reread by their fellow citizens." General Mark Clark |
